In recent decades, awareness of the importance of the services forests provide to society has been growing. With the Spatial Structure Plan for Flanders, the focus has long been on ‘ecological forest expansion’.

Today, we see an increasing focus on urban green space, green-blue veining and urban (edge) forests with the new objective of bringing nature, forests and individual trees closer to people.

This creates a new complex spatial play at the intersection of urban planning, landscape architecture, planning and forest management.
