Mobility is a daily issue for many Flemings, with both car owners and non-car owners complaining about traffic problems and poor public transport respectively.

However, this problem extends beyond individual annoyances: the transport sector is responsible for a large share of global CO2 emissions, and Belgium's share is well above average. Moreover, motorised transport leads to dispersed living, which not only causes pollution but also displaces nature and agriculture.

The solution lies in a structural approach that addresses transport poverty by making spatial planning and mobility more socially and environmentally sustainable.
